Thursday 15th December 2011 – Time For Some Metal!

Those of you out there that have known me for a long time will know that metal is what got me into music.  The raw power will always excite me no-end and the emotive atmospheres that fill this genre stay with my tastes and my work to this day.  There is no real substitute for metal, it does it’s job and it does it well.  Even the mainstream has been realising this in recent years with the use of metal  in various action films and video games to produce excitement and racing pulses.  Below are a few short instrumentals I’ve written that showcase the varying degrees of what metal can be, starting from the rock of ‘Lost in the Chase’, doom metal of ‘All is Finished’, death metal groove of ‘Continuing the Fight’ and the surging black/death metal of  ’Irresistible Power’.

Many people don’t understand metal as they see it as noisy and hard to listen to.  Of course this is done on purpose, not through lack of musicianship; in fact, metal can be very well conceived and tricks (like I’ve used below) such as off-putting timings and uncomfortable dissonance (‘horrible’ sounding harmonies) all contribute to the overall effect of drama and excitement.

Have a listen, but beware… they get heavier from track to track…
